From the President

Hello Steelheaders, Happy New Year. No Board Meeting this Month Travelers Cafe and Pub are still closed.
Travelers called me yesterday said they would be open on the 15th of January. They have us down for the 19th of January, so our Membership meeting is on. We do not have a speaker yet but will try to get one.
Very Important meeting this month we have elections. The election committee members are Frank Smith (269) 908-6577, Dave Haulman (269) 274-4504.
The president's duties are Chairing Board Meetings and Membership Meetings and getting the information to the webmaster. Getting a speaker for each membership meeting, making sure the webmaster has the info for the speaker. Write the president's note each month, making sure it gets out by the first of each month. Proofread the final News Letter, all info must be in by the 1st., including the Tackle Box and Big Fish Contest. Ensure the correct info is given to the webmaster for the website on all club events. All tournament info is accurate and up to date on the website and Facebook Page. The Vice President and other Board Members have helped me get information for the web site and Facebook Page.
Have a Safe and Happy New Year, Tight Lines Dave

Lake Erie: Early this month, Still catching them in the western basin; seems to be lots of shad available for walleye, bandits back with drop weights or wiggle worts in 20-24 ft. depths seem to be the trick, as close to bottom as possible, the clearer the skies and cooler weather will cause them to be deeper. Colors for Bandits working best are the chrome and blue combinations. Also, check around the 'W' and 'Y' buoys on the Michigan side dumping grounds. Lately, the winds out of the West have muddied up the waters, and the fish are hit and miss. It takes a couple of days for East winds to settle the lake back down and clear up the water. Perch out in front of the raisin river in 22 ft. water has been good. Take extra bait, lots of smaller perch, and you'll have to pick thru them for a quality limit. As of the 17th., still catching good walleye around kellys, and out from breast bay, bandits still good. Perch colors seem to be the best color scheme.
As of late, Huron is really heating up for big fish.
Rivers: Water is still low even after rain and recent snow; slow is the way to go to save those lower units.
Ice Fishing: North lakes are just starting to freeze over; just a reminder, especially if your fishing alone; let someone know who's not fishing with you and which lake you will be fishing on, and approximately when you anticipate returning home. As we all age, our risks of having a medical event increase exponentially with age, and a little extra time to make sure we all come home each day is worth a couple of minutes of our time.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
