A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR
Hello Neighbor,
It is our pleasure to provide you with actionable information that is useful to your property rehab. As we enter the cold season, be mindful of your surroundings and report any suspicious behavior to your local neighborhood police officers. In addition, I encourage you to follow safe heating practices and ensure that your property is maintained. We look forward to walking through this rehab journey together. Thank you for improving Detroit.

TAKING CARE OF THE EXTERIOR OF YOUR PROPERTY
As soon as you close the sale of your house, you need to secure your property right away.
You can secure your property with strong locks and by boarding up windows, doors, and any other openings. These boards can stay up until you have completed your exterior requirements and you’re ready to close your case with the Compliance Team.
You will also want to start by clearing all the debris, trash, and overgrown vegetation from your yard. Complete this step as soon as possible to avoid violating the City of Detroit’s blight codes.
To remove debris from your property, you can choose to use a private company or use the Detroit Department of Public Works:
- Paid Pick-Up Bulk Collection Service
- Free Citizen Bulk Drop-Off Centers
- Emerging Industries Training Institute
Throughout your entire renovation, keep the exterior of your property looking nice and clean and make it a habit to cut the grass, shovel the snow, and manage overgrown vegetation.
