Spotlight: Texas lawsuit rejected

The big news over the weekend was the Supreme Court's rejection of Texas's lawsuit attempting to stop key swing states from participating in the Electoral College, which will now meet today to finalize the presidential vote.

Public interest in the case was extremely high after more than 120 Republicans signed onto an amicus brief supporting the lawsuit, and CNN's article about the dismissal of the suit received nearly 2 million engagements. There were many other highly engaged stories, with coverage from NPR, NBC News, and the New York Times all independently receiving more than a million engagements, making this one of the most engaged political narratives since the election.

There were also a number of spin-off narratives that emerged from the news, including Democratic representative Bill Pascrell calling for representatives that signed the amicus brief not to be seated, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment

The Daily Wire referenced a response from the Texas GOP party chairman to the dismissal which implied secession as an option due to the decision, saying "perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution." This message received more than 400k engagements in the Daily Wire and more than 200k on Fox News

Most of the top responses to the suit being dismissed came from the president, who accused the Supreme Court of having no wisdom and no courage in his most engaged tweet on the matter.

Top 10 political stories of the last day

Below are the top ten stories of the last 24 hours, ranked by total engagements. There were two main narratives that emerged in the last day. The first was the ovation President Trump received at the Army-Navy game, as conservative sites focused on purported love for Trump in the military.

The second was the pro-Trump rallies on Saturday in D.C., where historic Black churches were attacked and four people were stabbed.
