INVITATION TO BECOME A DIRECTOR OF NORFOLK ALC
As mentioned last week, any councillor of a member council is currently entitled to apply to stand for election as a Director – contact us via countyofficer@norfolkalc.gov.uk for an application pack.
If your council has not yet nominated a Representative, please do so, to take part in the upcoming election for board members.  If you have no time to select a representative then send us the email of your chairman so we can pass the ballot papers to them. Thank you
POLICE LIAISON MEETINGS
As a reminder, our two remaining Q&A sessions are tonight at 6pm (South Norfolk & Broadland) and on Tuesday 26 January at 6pm (Breckland).

CUT A TONNE IN 21 CAMPAIGN
Our Climate Action Project will encourage us to cut carbon emissions by 10% during 2021, to coincide with the COP 26 summit in Glasgow in November. To hear more about how to this, to meet some of our partners and to see how you can become involved, come to our launch on Thursday 7 January on Zoom at 7pm.

VISORS UPDATE
Following the generous donation by Panel Graphic Ltd of 20,000 visors, there are still some available. They are free and they can be delivered to an address convenient for you. There is no delivery charge. If you have already taken up this offer, and would like some more, or have not yet considered how many you could use for your community, please contact Angela Makinson at angelamakinson@gmail.com.  As well as the delivery address, she just needs a contact name and telephone number.
CENSUS  2021 – READY, STEADY CENSUS
Households across Norfolk will soon be asked to take part in the nationwide survey.  Information from the census will help decide how services are planned and funded in your area. This could mean things like doctors' surgeries, housing or new bus routes. Census day is March 21. In Norfolk, there will be a number of Census completion events where Census staff will assist residents with completing the questionnaire.  If you have suggestions of suitable locations in Norfolk for completion events please contact Paul Walmsley ONS Census Engagement Manager - paul.walmsley45@field.census.gov.uk. COMMITTEE FOR STANDARDS IN PUBLIC LIFE
The Committee for Standards in Public Life (CSPL) have announced an extended closing date for their review of public standards. To assist them, you are asked to report on personal experiences of working within our sector. The survey will now close on 29 January and can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/standards-matter-2-public-sector-survey
NALC LOBBY DAY
National ALC’s Lobby Day each year is aimed at promoting local councils in parliament and will next be taking place online on 2 February. Lobby Day provides a great opportunity to develop and strengthen relations with MPs. If you wish to raise a particular issue, or simply get involved this year, contact us. USE OF VILLAGE HALLS/COMMUNITY BUILDINGS
Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) has produced a summary of what can and cannot take place take place in village and community halls. Read the guidance.

THE GOOD COUNCILLORS GUIDE TO COMMUNITY BUSINESS
Your Christmas reading has arrived! NALC’s Good Councillors Guide to Community Business helps parish and town councils better understand what community businesses can do. The publication features seven council case studies, showcasing examples of engagement with this form of business. You can find this publication within our website documents.

ADULT LEARNING LAUNCH FREE CREATIVE CHRISTMAS WORKSHOPS
As it now begins to feel a bit like Christmas, a second mention about learning how to make handmade decorations, wrapping paper and cards, draw and paint the changing landscape or take part in some festive French cooking, all delivered by Adult Learning’s expert tutors. As Cllr Margaret Dewsbury, cabinet member for communities and partnerships at Norfolk County Council says:
These workshops are a great way to get creative and keep our minds active in the run up to Christmas. It’s always a treat to either give or receive a handmade gift and these workshops will help Norfolk residents to make something special this year.”
The demonstrations will be delivered via Zoom and will last between 1-2 hours. Participants will be encouraged to share their works in progress during the session. These courses are open to Norfolk residents over 19 years of age and advanced booking is required.
