'A Christmas Carol' in 2020,
It's been a year, that much can be said, but the Grade 8 students have wholeheartedly worked on their play together nonetheless. What you'll, so uniquely, be able to see via a zoom webinar is the recording of weeks of joy, commitment, vulnerability, hardship and laughter.
The message 'A Christmas Carol' brings never gets outdated or loses its importance. Grade 8 took the lead to, while rehearsing Scrooge's journey through the Christmases on stage, 'do good' and make 'mankind their business,' to use Scrooge's words. We gathered and assembled gifts for the North Vancouver homeless community with Grades 3 and 4; we wrote letters to the elderly, we'll sing in Costumes outside the Lynn Valley Care home and make an effort to make an extra kind gesture towards a classmate. Let this only be the beginning for them and us all.
Rehearsing a play in Covid-times came with its challenges, not the least of which was realizing that there would be no live performances as there usually would be, but Grade Eight pulled through. We'll record with our buddy-class Grade Four in the audience (so do forgive their outbursts of joy on the recording) and can't wait for you to see it! Although they won't be able to hear your applause at the end, I'm sure you'll find a way to pay it forward!
