Well, what a year! So much has happened in such a short period of time, and Barr Gazetas is all the stronger for it. We have such a fantastic team.
For us, 2020 has been a year of transformation. Our secret has been to remain open to ideas and adaptable in the face of change, but most importantly it has been to commit to learning at every point along the way. It certainly hasn’t been an easy ride, but the results are worth it.
I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our clients and project partners who have put their faith in us this year. You can see the outcomes of many of these partnerships below in our recently completed work, and we have also included a sneak peek of some of the exciting things we have on the drawing board for the new year.

7 Holbein Place to be one of London's most sustainable offices
7 Holbein Place will become a landmark of sustainability for Grosvenor as the developer continues in its commitment to ensure all its managed buildings are net zero operational carbon by 2030.
The design, which recently received planning permission from RBKC, will retain and extend the existing five storey structure, reusing materials and introducing extensive planting inside and out. An early whole life carbon assessment minimises upfront embodied carbon, meaning the development will meet the LETI Pioneer Project embodied carbon target of 500kgCO2/m2.
This is one of our most exciting projects to date, and we are extremely proud to be working with Grosvenor to deliver one of London’s most sustainable offices.

Broadwalk House secures top tenant
Our refurbishment of Broadwalk House, at Broadgate has helped British Land secure one of the most talked-about names in fin-tech. Monzo pre-let the majority of the 140,000sqft prime city office space earlier this year, and we worked with them to tailor elements of the design to their needs.
The Barr Gazetas design has transformed the traditional corporate environment into one that appeals some of the world’s most creative future-thinkers. The remaining space has been fitted out as a plug and play flexible office suite that can be readily adapted to the landlord’s requirements in the coming year.

A modern approach to later living
We are hugely exciting to be collaborating with Marstead Living, to create their new masterplan that will support them to deliver a new model for independent senior living in London.
The scheme will provide modern and thoughtfully designed homes for a retired generation who seek social engagement and an active lifestyle.
The project aims to help people to live independently in the comfort and security of their own homes, while enabling them to be part of a vibrant and welcoming community.

Bloomsbury's best roof terrace
Our recently completed project at Lynton House in Bloomsbury has transformed a large underused roof space, into a welcoming social hub with spectacular views over London. The terrace features a covered bar area, sheltered seating zones, work zones and a flexible space for events or activities. It provides extensive end of trip facilities for people arriving to work on their bikes and to give people a place to refresh and recharge throughout their working day.

Injecting life back into Grosvenor Place
We completed our work on 40 Grosvenor Place for Patrizia earlier this year. This striking white monolithic building has housed prestigious commercial offices since 2001 and includes two restaurants, a retail space, communal facilities, and a large atrium.
Our refurbishment of the building transforms the tired and dated finishes into a vibrant and elegant environment, that appeals to a new generation of occupiers seeking a touch of old-school class.

Giudi hosts Architects Declare
We are leading the way with our contribution to Architects Declare. One of our Associates, Giudi Veneri, chaired the most recent meeting of the London Steering Committee, of which Barr Gazetas is a member.
The meeting was shared with Construction Declares in order to collaborate on industry best practice. The climate emergency is the greatest challenge facing our industry, and now more than ever we must work together to enact change.

The office is not dead!

Jon was recently interviewed for an article in Work in Mind where he discussed our work in workplace wellbeing in relation to the pandemic.
This year we have seen a big shift in thinking and healthy buildings are finally being championed by everyone and the pandemic has made retrofit briefs more aspirational.

The Crown Estate climate commitment
It's fantastic to see The Crown Estate is committing to Net Zero 2030.
We have been working with The Crown Estate on achieving this goal for many years. Our projects with them have pushed the envelope in terms of sustainability, achieving two world firsts.
Going beyond Net Zero, to climate-positivity, is a standard to which we should all ultimately be striving, and it’s hugely encouraging to see a major landlord leading the way on this.
