Holiday Traditions

As the holidays are upon us, staff and faculty from across the College have shared a few of their own traditions. The pandemic has changed many things this year, but holiday spirit can still be found in decorating and the new traditions that include Zoom calls!

"We normally all get together (about 25-30), have dinner and open up gifts at my Mom-in-love’s house. This year, the siblings and families only will rent an Air BnB, sanitize the home, and try to enjoy the new normal for now."

“In even years, Kevin and I drive to Grand Prairie, Texas where we spend Christmas with our daughter and her family. PawPaw (Kevin) and GeeMa (LaJauna) create a magnificent hot chocolate bar! This year, it’s Christmas in Texas, when little Thomas will be celebrating his first Christmas! We are blessed with a large family of five daughters, four sons-in-law, and 17 grandchildren.”

"Usually, we have a huge Christmas Eve dinner at my in-laws' house here in Atlanta, with family members that travel from around the world for us all to be together. This year, we will still be having that dinner, but we'll be on a Zoom call from our own homes so that we can share the evening together."

"Growing up in Japan, we have traditional new year celebrations that include flower arrangements, sushi and potluck dishes, and new year’s cards."

"Every year we head to the mountains with our dogs, make breakfast for dinner on Christmas Eve, and watch Christmas Vacation. We also put out our ceramic snowman, passed down to us from granny."
