FOOD DRIVE
2020 has been a crazy year, and times are tough for many. We want to invite our Scholls Heights family to join us in supporting a few of our own school families who are struggling right now.
The Scholls Heights Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a food drive to collect nonperishable pantry items to deliver to these families for winter break. We will be running this food drive until THIS WEDNESDAY, December 16th, at which point the school staff will sort and distribute food boxes. We will have a labeled collection bin in front of the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the drive.
Family friendly items like peanut butter, boxed mac and cheese, dried pasta, fruit snacks (gelatin free), kid friendly cereals, canned soups, fruit cups, crackers and snack foods, etc are requested. We have some families that need to stay pork-free, so items without pork, bacon, gelatin, unspecified shortening, lard, etc would be incredibly helpful as well.
We have opened our Square account to those who might want to contribute monetarily. The Scholls Heights teachers and staff will use these funds to shop for perishable items immediately before delivery to ensure these families have access to fresh foods as well. The SHPTO square account can be accessed here.
Special shout out to the 1st grade families for their tremendous effort in the food drive. Take a look at some photos of how much they had collected as of Friday, December 4!
STAFF APPRECIATION
Thank you to everyone who made signed for the staff in November. They loved them! Take a look at some of the signs that were made.
SHPTO IS OUT OF THE OFFICE
The SHPTO is taking some time away during the winter break to focus on family and gear up for the new year. December 19th, returning January 4th. We will not be responding to emails or calls during that time. If you have an immediate need, please email Allison Ziarnik at president@shpto.org and we will try to get back to you within a reasonable time. Please submit any reimbursements by the 16th of December so we can cut checks before the winter break. We will resume business as normal for the new year!
DINING FOR DOLLARS (D4$)
When you dine at the supporting restaurant on the D4$ Day, they donate a portion of their proceeds back to the PTO.
The next D$4 is this Wednesday, December 16 The Ridge Pub. They are located at 12345 SW Horizon Blvd #61 in Beaverton. They are near Ava's in the Progress Ridge Townsquare.
Our fundraiser goes from open to close: 2:00pm - 9:00pm.
Important: In order for your purchase to count towards our fundraiser, you must verbally tell the cashier of your participation.
We are currently in need of volunteers to help out on our Dining For Dollars Committee. This involves working with our current committee chair in contacting restaurants, selecting dates, and ensuring that checks are mailed to the school. This can be done from the comfort of your own home, and is a great way to help fundraise for the PTO. Reach out to Emily at vicepresident@SHPTO.org if you can help!
SNOWFLAKE HUNT
Join the Scholls Heights Snowflake Hunt!
This month Beaverton Safe Routes to School invites your school community to go on a Snowflake Hunt!
To participate make a snowflake and place it in a window facing the street and then go for a walk and count how many snowflakes you find. We hope this provides your family with a fun activity and a little encouragement to get outside for a walk or roll. Use the link below for a snowflake making tutorial and make sure your trip is counted in the following ways:
1. Send an email to bsdsaferoutes@gmail.com with the number of snowflakes you found. BSD students (or parents) please include how many students participated and what school they are from.
2. BSD elementary students can also log their miles on their Marathon Kids account. If you need information on how to set up a Marathon Kids account, contact your PE teacher.
Check out this video for how to make a snowflake. A big thank you to SH parent Andrea Bonard who got this idea started and then adopted by the BSD!
A few blocks from school on a street that starts with "G" is where snowflakes will surely be.
