Green light for £50m Maybole Community Campus

South Ayrshire Council is to progress towards starting the formal construction of the £50 million Maybole Community Campus after the development was granted planning approval.
Last year, Morgan Sindall was appointed via hub South West to build the Maybole Community Campus with architects BDP appointed to lead the design team.
Initial works are planned for spring next year with the new campus set to open in 2023.

hub programme takes gold and silver at Partnerships Awards

At last week's Partnerships Awards, two hub DBFM projects, Cumbernauld Academy & Community Theatre and Jedburgh Grammar Campus took Gold and Silver respectively in the Best Education Project category.
Cumbernauld Academy & Community Theatre delivered by hub South West and Jedburgh Grammar Campus delivered by hub South East were delivered through the Scotland's Schools for the Future programme.

Consultation opens on Barra and Vatersay Community Campus

A unique project on the remote island of Barra has moved a step closer to becoming a reality with the consultation opening on the Barra and Vatersay Community Campus that will bring together a primary school, a high school and a hospital.
SFT was very much involved in bringing Western Isles Council, the health board and the Hebridean Housing Partnership together with the project to be delivered by hub North.

£49m package for new Stornoway deepwater terminal
|

Last week, Scottish Government announced a £49m infrastructure investment package that will utilise SFT's Growth Accelerator to develop a new deepwater terminal in the Outer Hebrides creating over 200 jobs.
Christa Reekie, director of development and housing at the Scottish Futures Trust, said: “The Scottish Futures Trust has worked in partnership with Stornoway Port Authority and the Scottish Government in the use of the Growth Accelerator funding mechanism for this flagship project. This is Scotland’s third Growth Accelerator project where our expert economic support and guidance have helped unlock substantial inclusive economic growth.”

EE UK partners with Scottish Government to deliver rural 4G mobile infill project
|
|
|
Last week, mobile operator EE announced that it's partnered with Scottish Government to help deliver its £25m 4G Infill Programme which SFT manages, which aims to improve rural mobile voice and broadband coverage (mostly notspots across the Highlands and Islands) by building new masts for UK mobile operators to use.

Latest hub dashboard published

The December hub dashboard has been published. As well as showing the value of the programme across the five territories and employment and social value figures, there's been the addition of a link to a document outlining all the dashboard definitions and measurements.

Midlothian Council and Vattenfall launch new energy services company
|
|
|
The end of November saw the launch of Midlothian Energy - a 50:50 joint venture between Midlothian Council and Vattenfall as an innovative approach to delivering heat networks and other low carbon energy infrastructure to the area.
SFT's associate director, Dr Paul Moseley was involved with the procurement through SFT's role on the Steering Group and said at the launch: "Midlothian Energy represents a major step towards decarbonising heat supplies to buildings in the area. The use of a joint venture is an innovative approach to delivering heat networks in Scotland and plays to the strengths of the public and private sector partners."
