Newsletter 6 - December 2020


Dear Colleagues
 
Chrysta and I would like to wish you all the very best for the Christmas break. We hope that you have a lovely time with loved ones and that Santa brings you all that you wish for! You all certainly deserve it, leading your communities through a term like no other. It has been an absolute privilege to work with you all this term. Of note, is that unlike some other regions, you have all found the capacity to manage the day to day uncertainty of Covid as well as finding the capacity, time and energy to engage in important school improvement work. Sincerely thank you.
 
This newsletter is a celebration of what we have have achieved together, building a collaborative approach to school improvement a cross the City founded on trust, empathy, challenge and support.
 
Highlights of the Term….

  • A round of virtual school improvement meetings delivered along with bespoke outcomes support.
  • Plymouth Strategy Group established with a collective will to take responsibility of outcomes across the city, welcoming two new Multi Academy Trusts to the City. (Thinking Schools Trust and Greenshaw Learning Trust)
  • Launch of the Plymouth Strategy Portal, bespoke and unique to Plymouth
  • Launch of secondee work, with agreement over "Cluster Model” to reduce student mobility across the city and first cluster based inclusion panels have met
  • Shared Data agreed and Plymouth Headline Data published
  • The first two leadership webinars, sponsored by the Ambitions Institute, and delivered by Sir David Carter broadcast
  • Further webinars broadcast on Remote Learning (Ed Tech) COVID opening support (GLT), Teaching and Learning in the City (Marine, Plympton, Sir John Hunt), the Ofsted interim visit, the National Tutoring programme and the GLT Reading Programme,
  • Funding secured for Maths Facilitated Professional Community and launch of this Community
  • Funding secured for STEM network and CPD package across the City
  • Planning for the EEF/Leadership Programme completed ready for launch in the Spring Term
  • Fortinghtly newsletters published connecting the City to SW regional and national news
  • A Plymouth Secondary Twitter community formed to signpost opportunities and national guidance updates and celebrate the excellent work of Plymouth schools
  • Support secured from Whole School SEND and Malcolm Broad to conduct a city and cluster level SEND analysis and follow up support
  • Further schools implementing whole school guided reading approaches and bedrock learning to tackle literacy and disadvantage at scale.
 
To look forward to in the Spring Term….
 
  • A second round of virtual school improvement meetings following up Autumn Term support and offering further bespoke support.
  • Strategy Group plans to support schools around key improvement priorities, focussing on English/Literacy, Maths/Numeracy, Leadership, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, SEND, Transition and Attendance.
  • Strategy Group to complete “Excellence Audit” to share and support school improvement across the City
  • Implementation of “Cluster Model” to reduce student mobility across the city.
  • Final webinar, sponsored by the Ambitions Institute, and delivered by Sir David Carter on “Setting the vision and ensuring organisational alignment.”
  • Launch of the EEF/PCC leadership programme.
  • Portal infrastructure developments to support the development of further Professional Learning Communities in Literacy, SEND, STEM, Teaching and Learning.
  • Teaching School Hub offer for Plymouth to be published
