Happy Holidays! We look forward to reopening again in April 2021! In the meantime, email us at wildwoodhistoricalsociety@hotmail.com for private tours, and don’t forget our online gift shop is open year round at wildwoodhistoricalmuseum.com/shop
Museum Minutes
Gift Shop is Open! We ship Tram Car toys, pieces of Wildwood Boardwalk and baubles by Priority Mail, which usually takes 1-3 business days. Although Priority Mail is guaranteed, it is remotely possible that orders could take longer because USPS gets inundated around the holidays.
We ship books, calendars and DVDs by Media Mail, which usually takes 2-10 business days. Orders could take even longer this time of year thought, because USPS gets inundated around the holidays.
Everything else, we ship using First Class Mail which usually takes 1-3 business days (not guaranteed). Orders could take even longer this time of year thought, because USPS gets inundated around the holidays.  wildwoodhistoricalmuseum.com/shop

We received this donation of a sign that hung at the Wildwood Civic Club around the holidays. This week, we accepted it as a donation and our Vice President Al Brannen displayed it on our fence! We are ever grateful to our donors.

Have you visited historic Holly Beach Park all lit up for the annual Winter Wonderland? It’s magnificent ⛄️ check out the light show happening this weekend after dark  ❄️ Holly Beach Park is the site of the oldest building in Wildwood, the Mini House (1882) which is currently dressed up as Santa’s Workshop

Boardwalk Treats

By Rob Ascough

As my brother and I transitioned from children to teenagers, our annual family vacations in Wildwood evolved to suit ever-changing interests and itineraries. My dad and Michael would set aside a day for an early tee time at Cape May National or Sand Barrens, and because golfing was only slightly more appealing to me and my mother than oral surgery without Novocain, we started our own tradition.
We’d begin the day enjoying breakfast at whatever restaurant my dad or brother voted against at some point.
“I don’t want to go there, that place doesn’t look good,” one would inevitably declare.
Following our meal and some time on the beach, we strolled the boardwalk from one end to the other. The latter was significant because for as much time as we all spent on the boardwalk as a family, there were never any other times we walked the entire length and back.
            “132.”
            “132 what?”
“132 places selling pizza,” I’d confirm to my mom as we reached the ramp at the North Wildwood terminus.

Decorations at the City’s big department stores such as Wanamakers, Gimbels, Lit Brothers and Strawbridges added so much excitement and the annual tradition of visiting the toy departments, for a kid, were fantasy lands. Wildwood, on the other hand, had Murphys and Woolworths. Continue Reading
