Christmas Services

We cannot do our usual big Christmas Services at St. Mary's, but we still hope to welcome you to Church Services to celebrate Christmas.
The Christmas services in church all need to be pre-booked in order to monitor numbers carefully and ensure we can maintain correct social distance.
We will keep the big doors open at the back of church to keep the space well ventilated, so we recommend you wrap up warm if you are coming to any of the services.

Instead of our big Carol Services we are offering more intimate Bite-size Carol Services, with less people attending each event. We will have more services, to try and make space for everyone that would like to come along, in the week leading up to Christmas (starting from Sat 19th December)

We will be doing virtual Christingle Services online on Christmas Eve. Christingle packs can be collected from church on Christmas Eve between 10-12 am. Assemble your Christingle while watching the service at home and join with others to light candles together via Zoom at 5.30pm. Sign up to reserve a Christingle bag and to receive details. Watch the virtual service on St Mary’s Beverley YouTube from 1pm onwards.

Midnight Communion will be taking place in Church on Christmas Eve but is now fully booked

Christmas Day Services will take place in Church at 8am, 9.30am and 11.15am. Again, numbers will be limited so early booking is recommended.

To book on to any of these services, please click the button below and select the service you would like (If you are not able to book online please call the church office on 01482 869137 - preferably Mon-Thurs 9am-11am)

TICKETS HAVE NOW BEEN SENT OUT BY EMAIL TO EVERYONE THAT BOOKED PRIOR TO 15TH DECEMBER. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF THE TICKET TO THE SERVICE TO AVOID ANY CONFUSION AT THE DOOR

The Lion, the Unicorn and Me

In December 2020, St Mary’s has presented a very special Christmas project for children and families in the East Riding based on The Lion, the Unicorn and Me by Jeanette Winterson.

In this beautifully evocative retelling of the story of the very first Christmas, the humble donkey is chosen out of all the other animals, including the kingly lion and the proud unicorn. As his journey unfolds, he is touched by the magic and mystery of the Nativity…

Prayers
Wednesday 9th - Friday 8th January 2020

(broadcast each evening on Facebook)

A simple form of evening prayer and candle lighting *

At St Mary's we would like to invite you to join us in a short time of prayer every day at 7pm. It involves lighting a candle and placing it in the window and then saying the following prayers as individuals or as households.  You can join with others in these prayers on our Facebook page.

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.

Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

The following may be watched My hope

The reading for the day (see below)**

The candle is lit and the following prayer is said
Heavenly Father, accept this burning candle as a sign of faith and love.
Like this candle, bring light into our world
Even as this candle is lit may we know your presence
and be consumed in the warmth of your love.
In your mercy, Lord hear our prayer.

In peace we will lie down and sleep;
for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.

Abide with us, Lord Jesus
for the night is at hand and the day is now past.

As the night watch looks for the morning
so do we look for you, O Christ.

The Lord bless us and watch over us;
the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us;
the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. Amen.
