MEAM Approach evalution

Cordis Bright have published the year 4 mid-year report for the longitudinal evaluation of the MEAM Approach. The report provides a brief overview of the MEAM Approach network to date and sets out the research planned for year 4.
Latest policy news - COVID-19

Changing Futures programme

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has published a prospectus for the a £46 million cross-government programme, Changing Futures, focused on improving the way that local systems and services work for adults experiencing multiple disadvantage. MEAM has published a statement welcoming the launch of the programme.

Rough sleeping questionnaire 

The findings of one of the largest survey collections on people who sleep rough ever attempted in the UK, 563 people who slept rough last year, have been published, providing in-depth information on their support needs and vulnerabilities including mental and physical health, substance misuse and other vulnerabilities.

Help for people rough sleeping with drug and alcohol dependence

The Government has allocated £23 million to 43 priority areas in England to assist people who are rough sleeping and have a drug or alcohol dependence to access specialist support. 

Trends in illicit drug use

The Office for National Statistics has published its annual overview of the extent and trends of illicit drug use for the year ending March 2020. 

Homelessness and a Covid-19 vaccine

The Big Issue has published an article raising the important question of how people experiencing homelessness will receive the Covid-19 vaccination as the national programme is rolled out. 

Tackling violence against women and girls

The Home Office has launched a call for evidence to inform a new strategy to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls. This is the first time the government is asking victims, survivors, and their families and friends for their views and experiences

Re-thinking homelessness prevention

The Local Government Association has published a report Re-thinking homelessness prevention arguing that that the way we talk about homelessness prevention needs to change, recognising the vital importance of upstream cross-service prevention work in local homelessness systems, and the role of councils, their partners and central government policy in delivering this work.

Female imprisonment

The Prison Reform Trust has published an analysis of local court data revealing a significant north-south divide in rates of women’s imprisonment, with women in the north of England, the Midlands and parts of Wales far more likely to end up behind bars than those in the south of England.

Deaths of homeless people 

The Office for National Statistics has published the number of deaths of homeless people in England and Wales for 2019. There were an estimated 778 deaths in 2019, an increase of 7.2% from 2018.

Women selling sex during Covid-19

Changing Lives has published a report, NET REACH: Learning from online outreach with women selling sex during Covid-19, calling for urgent action to support women with existing vulnerabilities who are selling sex and/or experiencing sexual exploitation.
COVID-19 Resources from the sector

Homeless Link updates

Homeless Link has published new research on the scale of expansion of Housing First in Picture of Housing First in 2020. It has also commented on the recent homelessness death statistics highlighting homelessness as a national health emergency.

Clinks has launched a new round of their Covid-19 grants programme, this time to support more small and specialist voluntary organisations working in the criminal justice system.

Mind has published new research into men's mental health; Get It Off Your Chest: Men's mental health 10 years on. 

Collective Voice 

Collective Voice has published an overview of their webinar on substance misuse and mortality. This includes useful presentations and materials from guest speakers.

Nominations for the INSIGHT Awards are now open and the deadline for submissions is 31st January 2021. Tickets for the event are now available via Eventbrite. Expert Citizens has put together a media pack that contains everything you need to know about the awards.
