Hello from the UT Austin Digital Heart Health Study Team!
This has been a tough year for all of us. Thank you for your support to our study despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

We went fully remote in our study and enrolled 32 older adults with HF from Texas and Oklahoma in our randomized-control trial study phase. 
Demographics:
  • 53% Female
  • 44% were 65 - 89 years of age 
  • 72% White
  • 56% High School or Associate Degree/Diploma
  • 41%  < 1 year of HF diagnosis 
15 in game with sensors group; 
17 in the sensor-only control group 
Results (Over 12 weeks):
  • Weighing5 days a week increased by 40% in the game group versus  decreased by 7% in control group
  • 14% increase in steps from 6th to 12th week in the game group versus  7% decrease in control group 
  • 14% increase in steps in game group versus control group
  • 12-week hospitalization rate decreased by > 12% in both game and control group (possibly due to COVID19 effect)
Results:
  • 92%: Game interesting, satisfying, enjoyable and/or easy to play
  • 94%: Continued weight-monitoring behaviors beyond 12 weeks
  • Notable Participant Quotes: "It was motivational for me to continue to pay attention to my heart failure regimen until it became more of a routine."
