Remote Learning Will Keep A Strong Foothold Even When the Pandemic Ends
Twenty percent of districts and charter management organizations (CMOs) said in a recent survey that when the pandemic ends, online learning will continue. When pressed about why, district leaders noted that flexibility for students, parent demand, and addressing students’ needs were among the reasons why they were going to continue to offer online instruction in some form. While online learning has proven to be a challenge for many students, particularly students living in poverty, some students and teachers like the flexibility. The challenge going forward is ensuring that online instruction is high-quality and that access is equitable. Internet access is an ongoing concern among district superintendents. Forty percent of school superintendents surveyed indicate that internet access is a “significant challenge” for remote learning this year.

Teacher Spotlight Teacher Spotlight honors the tremendous work of residents and mentors from our partner programs. We showcase what residents are doing to learn and grow as they prepare to become full-time teachers and the mentors who are dedicated to supporting these novice educators. Each week we will spotlight a teacher nominated from a residency program within our NCTR Network. We are excited to elevate the great teaching happening around the country to serve students, families, and communities.

Rebecca is teaching in a hybrid instructional model and every day her schedule is different. She has embraced her placement and shows a commitment to her students and developing her practice. This week, her mentor (a dually certified ELA/ENL and National Board Certified Teacher) emailed me the following comments: “ I literally could not do it without her this year - remote ENL classes are proving challenging to help keep students caught up in all of their classes, so being able to lean on Rebecca to assist with that is proving invaluable.”
