December, 2020

Dear <<First Name>>,

Hardly a day goes by when I'm not reminded of the power of gratitude, either through my own direct experience or the various tips and techniques that come from family, friends, and colleagues.

Gratitude is a powerful tool in the leadership toolbox, as well as a potent coping skill when all feels bleak and unnerving (aka 2020!)

And, while practicing gratitude offers tremendous value to our growth and mental health, another way to take stock and pay it forward as we move into the new year is through Mentoring.

There are myriad benefits gained from whichever role you play in a mentoring relationship, not the least of which is the opportunity to fortify your network. Successful mentoring relationships provide growth and gratification for both the mentor and the mentee.

For the Mentor, there's:

  • Personal fulfillment - it feels good to help someone with less experience grow their leadership skills
  • A confidence boost- "hmm-maybe I have learned a thing or two."
  • An opportunity to refine coaching and active listening skills
For the Mentee, there's:
  • A different perspective from someone with more experience
  • Support and encouragement when you're feeling vulnerable or insular
  • A judgement-free, safe zone to unpack blind spots or brainstorm ideas
In essence, mentoring is more like an infinity loop in which both parties benefit and have the opportunity to experience each side of the relationship throughout their career - and perhaps simultaneously.

But wait, there's much more to getting the most out of your mentoring relationships.  Read on for more information about the stages and how to qualify a good fit.

Happy Holidays!

Mentoring: The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Mentoring is like an infinity loop in which both parties benefit and have the opportunity to experience each side of the relationship throughout their career -- and perhaps simultaneously. Meaning, you can mentor someone at the same time you are being mentored by someone else.
