Bicycle Friendly Simsbury Needs YOU!
Crisp air has arrived. For many local bicyclists, outdoor cycling will take a pause. But bike advocacy work happens year-round to make Simsbury a safer, more accessible Bicycle Friendly Community. Our team of dedicated advocates is currently looking for new volunteers. If you believe that biking makes Simsbury a better place to live, work, learn, and play, please consider helping us with this important work. We have volunteer opportunities in many areas including:

* communications * web design * social media * fund raising * education * business networking * event planning * trails & mapping *non-profits

For more information, come to a meeting or contact challenge@simsbury.bike.

A Bicycle Friendly Community welcomes bicyclists by providing encouragement and safe accommodation for all forms of cycling;  commits to making biking a safe, enjoyable transportation option and recreational activity; and values bicycling for its many benefits, which include improving citizen’s health, well-being and quality of life; reducing traffic congestion and pollution; and boosting community spirit and sense of place.
Avon Group Leading
Bicycle Friendly Community Effort
Bike Walk Avon CT is a volunteer organization made up of area residents.  Our mission is to advocate for safe and attractive paths within our community.  We partner with the Town of Avon and advocacy groups within Connecticut to nurture public health and recreation on existing and future pathways in our community.

We are currently looking for a volunteer who would be interested in joining our group to help us advocate for safe biking and walking for the children in our town.

Do you know an Avon parent or educator who might be interested? If so, please contact us via our Facebook page or email BikeWalkAvonCT@gmail.com.

New members are always welcome! Our next meeting is via Zoom on Tues., Dec. 22 at 7 pm.  Contact us for the link.

Issues related to town trails should be reported to the the Department of Culture, Parks and Recreation through the Town of Simsbury Contact Us online form, and issues related to state roads should be reported to CT Department of Transportation
Transport Hartford has updated their  CT Transportation Future Survey to capture changes due to the pandemic.  Share your transportation habits and ideas for the future.

2021 Legislative Priorities:
Bike Walk CT Seeking Input
Through December, Bike Walk CT is seeking input on 2021 legislative priorities. The priorities in 2020, stalled due to COVID, included pedestrian safety in crosswalks, local speed limits, distracted driving, traffic impact studies, a greenways account, trail bonding, and others.  Email your ideas to bikewalkct@bikewalkct.org.
PLEASE:  At street crossings where there are pedestrian buttons to activate flashing warning lights but no pedestrian "walk" signal, pedestrians and bicyclists should push the button to turn on the warning lights, then wait for drivers to stop before entering the street.  Drivers, under CT law, you must yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
