Two EBLRLA Members Will Join the Alameda County Superior Court Bench
We are beyond thrilled to share that two of our members are joining the Alameda County Superior Court as judges: Elena Condes and David Pereda.

Elena (pictured left) won the race for judge this past November 3 election. She was the first Latinx judicial candidate to ever run in Alameda County. Elena will also be the first Latina who is lesbian to serve on the Alameda County bench.

David (pictured right) was appointed to serve as a judge in the Alameda County Superior Court by Governor Newsom on December 8.

We are so proud of Elena and David and their individual journeys to the bench. Elena and David embody our mission of expanding legal access to our communities and increasing our representation in the judiciary. Please join us in congratulating Elena and David!

What inspired you to enter the law profession?
There are so many things that influenced my decision to become a lawyer. Growing up as a first-generation American and frequently traveling to Mexico to see my extended family, the differences in government, society, rulemaking, and politics were palpable. It piqued my interest in law at a young age. I have always been one to challenge the status quo and believe that despite its flaws, we can use the law to improve society. Also, my father was a gardener and I helped him cut grass whenever I was not in school or shooting hoops. I wanted to join a prestigious profession where I could obtain financial security and make an impact without working outside in the extreme heat.
