~~~ Issue 18, March 2021 ~~~
Hi <<First Name>> Welcome to the latest issue of the Gazette. One year ago today we took the decision to close our office due to the escalating concern about the coronavirus pandemic here in the UK.
A week earlier we had gathered in Yoker for our Community Environmental Forum where we watched a film about building community resilience. The film maker was unable to join us as his visit to Europe had been cancelled due to the pandemic. And then less than 2 weeks later the resilience of our communities was being tested to the limit. And the response then and now from our communities has been phenomenal.
The Scottish Government announced this week that there will be a minutes silence on Tuesday 23 March, the anniversary of the start of lockdown, to remember those who have lost their lives to COVID - tragically nearly 10,000 people - plus all the other people who have lost their lives during that time and the additional pain and grief the restrictions have bought to their loved ones.
The anniversary of the start of lockdown also offers a chance for  reflection - so much has happened and so much has changed over the past twelve months and there has been much adapting and learning. But also many issues that affected people and communities before the pandemic have not changed or have been made worse.
Springtime offers us hope - the days are getting longer and brighter, nature is awaking from it's winter sleep, wee bursts of colour are appearing all over the place and the bird song is getting louder! Lockdown restrictions are also beginning to be eased allowing us to meet up with more people. With COP26 coming to Glasgow later this year it also feels like a massive opportunity - how do we build forward better and improve lives for the many and not the few?
What are your hopes for the rest of 2021?
With everything that has happened this year and with the soundbite nature of the mainstream media how we describe our feelings can get limited to a few words. This emotional wheel is a really useful resource to help to expand how we describe how we feel.
