In my mind, I'm writing this from the comfort of a well-worn armchair. Next to a roaring fire in a log cabin somewhere Nordic and snowy. A hot cup of coffee at my side and the dogs sleeping contentedly on a rug at my feet.
Obviously, that's not actually the case. And to be honest, that's never been the case. But it doesn't stop me hoping.
In reality, I am - much like you, I suspect - stuck here at home, looking out on a vista of grey skies and torrential rain. But the dogs are here. And they do, indeed, appear to be sleeping contentedly.
I doubt very much that any of us are having the year we expected to have. And while it would be nice to think that, as the calendar turns from 2020 to 2021, all our problems will be solved, I think we know that we have another difficult year ahead of us.
So as the Earth completes another lap around the sun, I wish you, your colleagues and your families peace, security and (socially-distanced) good cheer in these difficult times.
And I join you in looking forward to brighter days ahead.
