Tumi  - taking hands with more precious people to help our most precious ones

Above: Melody with Marilyn Boltney from CHOC.
We initiated contact with CHOC and successfully facilitated the handover of 12 Tumi Tigers that were distributed to 12 social workers on a national level.

They were grateful and presented GRNSA with a framed certificate of appreciation.

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa provides free, comprehensive support to families of children with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.”

We collaborated with a psychologist, a fashion house and plumbing/electrical company to place tigers at the
Woodstock Police Station (Trauma Room)

as well as
Woodstock Trauma Centre.

Schmidthauser, the plumbing/electrical company, sponsored the tigers we placed. Mr Schmidhauser said “our business has been run successfully by our family for 3 generations on the foundation of family, care, support, kindness, community and unconditional giving. And this is a time when we ALL have to do whatever it takes to care for each other and especially those in need.”
Rosey & Vittori made cute tiger print face masks to accompany the tigers. Taken from the Schmidhauser press release: “Steven Rosenbaum and Isabella Bisogno, the creators of the luxe street fashion designer label Rosey & Vittori donated funky tiger print masks for the counselors and children to wear.”

Prochorus, a national NPO affiliated to the Shofar Church Group, was pleased to receive 10 tigers for their work in the Helderberg area, as
well as another 10 tigers to be distributed to township creche teachers in the Cape Flats and Boland areas.
Gérard Ter Haar (coordinator)
calls Tumi " a counseling tool of excellence". Their ministry is very hands on with the Early Childhood Development Centres and places of safety.

In the above photo Gérard is receiving some of the tigers.

Tumi made his way to a shelter in Athlone, Sisters Incorporated. Lorna Solomons (above), their skills manager, collected 9 more tigers in November as they had an influx of guests.

She writes: "After Tumi arrived, my office became more popular. Young and old will sit with Tumi on their lap and soon they will be swept away in a land where dreams seem so real.

"Tumi assists me with the chance to connect more with my children.

"When outside my office, my toddlers will run to me just to ask when they can see Tumi again. Tumi also became a best friend for a child who was not easily accepted in the centre. Tumi would always listen to her and acknowledge that her presence is important. It became a ritual that when she enters my office, she will take Tumi out his resting place and then she will talk to me with Tumi on her lap. Then, after the interview, she will always tug Tumi in, knowing that she was seen and experienced with non-judgemental actions.

"I am grateful that I can have Tumi in my office and look forward to many more successful experiences."

We are looking forward to more feedback of Tumi's adventures in the Free State.

More orally translated Bible portions go "live"

With only three Scripture portions left to be finished, we managed to finished the processing of the Naro Oral Scripture Set in November. Naro is the largest San language spoken in Botswana.

During December we will concentrate on the Ju'/'hoansi language, with our field partners working and sending the recorded  content from Shakawe.

Pray with us for this work, good connectivity and perseverance for the team.

We also received 89 audio Scripture passages in the Makhuwa Nahara language of Mozambique. We hope to attend to these soon. The translations and recordings was done by SIL.

Outreach in Malawi

Dallion Chitekwere (above picture) serves with Fishers, Trainers and Senders. They believe in equipping and training lay people to share the Good News of the Bible with everyone eager to listen.

This work has developed into the establishment of big and small listening groups all-over Malawi. There are more than 130 active groups we know of.

They use GRN's Bible-based bridge materials, together with the audio Bible, to teach each other the content of the Bible.

During October Dallion, accompanied by FTS colleague Lameck, re-visited some of these groups in the Lake shore Area.

The purpose of the visit:
  • To see how the audio players with accompanying picture sets help to bring transformation in the lives of people - if at all.
  • To service and repair playback devices being used,
  • To facilitate follow-up discussions in case people had any questions about what they've learnt,
  • To make sure the users still remember how to use the materials,
  • To train new people on how to use the mp3 players and picture sets.
What they experienced was encouraging:

Children are able to share Bible stories with each other by using the pictures in the flip chart books - even when the teacher is busy or has gone somewhere.
They were also excited to see that the number of children attending both Sunday school and village kids clubs are on the increase.

Dallion passionately believes in Proverbs 22:6 that says: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
The children of the world need: love, guidance and most of all protection - more than ever.

Please pray with us for the millions of children left vulnerable in this world.

Here Dallion demonstrates GRN materials in a village  church.

One pastor said: "I'm glad to receive these materials, because our church will be empowered together with our fellowship and even my family, also me as a person."

"A new user of these Bible-based programs, a young Sunday school teacher said:
"This Audio Bible player and picture books will make my work easier, as children in my Sunday school will be able to hear and see pictures of the story at the same time as I will be teaching them.
"I believe also that their attention will be drawn to the extent that they will be inviting others to join us."

Members of Kalimam’njira Bible study group said:
"We have been helped a lot by these materials since we received an audio Bible and LLL books for the first time in 2017. When we started gathering, we were using the Bible only of what we had heard from other people. Some of thóse people could read, while some could not read the Bible themselves. But as of now the audio Bible and LLL books are helping us in such away that we are sharing with one another what we hear from the materials. Everyone who cannot read and write can still hear the right Bible teachings. It is also very easy for us to teach others using these materials."

WHAT'S BEEN RECEIVED ARE CHERISHED
Dallion and Lameck also found that the amount of materials, especially the mp3-playback devices that were lost, stolen or damaged, were few in comparison to the amount that are actively in use. Most were well-used and needed a good service. It shows that the tools are much appreciated and treasured.

Thank you to all our donors who contributed towards this outreach and also sponsored new materials. New end-users were equipped and old and tattered materials could be replaced.

Pray with us for blessed souls during this Christmas Season!

Colin the Companion Cub
-  our new Alzheimer's therapeutic tool "live"

You can now listen to or download the Colin Companion Talks from the GRN-website:
https://globalrecordings.net/en/program/66717

The music has been prepared with great care and tuned to 432Hz by performing artist Joshua Prinsloo (below).
As you can see Colin kept a close eye on proceedings.

Our print partner, Kim, saw to it that the accompanying Colin smart cards

and Colin Glove guides

were printed in time; she also managed the manufacturing of 50 demo pairs of fleecy glove guides. In the picture on the right above I was priviledged to pose for a photo with Colin to show off these brand new therapeutic tools for people living with Alzheimer's.

If you're interested in any of these therapeutic tools, especially in Colin as a partner for a family member living with Alzheimer's, you may contact Melody at melodybrits@globalrecordings.net.

The project is a joint effort by Global Recordings Network Southern Africa,
Home of Creativity and Megavoice.
Home of Creativity wrote the script for us. We created and prepared
the audio content, while the hardware: soft toy and "Colin's voice box", are both supplied by Megavoice.

A Song of Encouragement
- for you this Christmas season, because you matter.

Above: Marié du Toit and pianist Bram Potgieter

Especially during turbulent times we need an extra portion of faith in something and "Somebody Bigger than You and I".

We originally recorded this song as a bonus track to go with the performing artist's personal testimony:
Marié du Toit lives with Bipolar Mood Disorder. Though we hope to release this testimony soon, we think this song is a good piece to encourage you, wishing you the closeness of the Lord, the love of family and friends, and peace beyond understanding during this festive season.

This has been a year that brought exceptional challenges. Despite these challenges you were a partner in prayer. Some of you were able to still contribute towards this work over and above our expectations. We want to thank you with this song and hope it provides you with a quiet moment of peace and assurance ... you will hear that we left it to a robin to have the last word on this.

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."

--Robert Collier (1885-1950), American self-help author.

Let's just never stop trying.

We are thankful to everyone who supports our projects financially. Every donor is part of this team.
