GREEN CITY GROWERS' 2020 RECAP
Dear Green City Growers Customers and Supporters,

Well, it's been quite a year! What started out as a very scary and difficult spring grew into a productive and impactful summer and fall. While some of our projects were sidelined, the majority of our farms and gardens stayed in operation for the 2020 growing season. We were able to grow over 20,000lbs of fresh, organically grown produce, with more than 1/2 of what we grew going to area food banks to fight food insecurity. In a time filled with uncertainty, it has felt good to be able to provide tangible and helpful services to the communities we serve.

One of our shining accomplishments this season has been our team's ability to pivot to online engagement. With each garden and farm location, we began doing weekly video updates to keep our constituents in the loop- while many of the folk who had previously engaged in our garden programs were at home (tenants, employees, students), we were able to offer virtual opportunities for engagement. Between zoom classes, workshops, and weekly video garden updates, we uploaded 650 videos to our company YouTube channel this season, which yielded almost 5,000 views!

We feel forever grateful for the support we've received this season. From customers like Aramark, who kept us farming at Fenway Farms, even with the ballpark closed to provide produce for their furloughed staff, to school teachers throughout the Boston Public Schools working with our farmer/educators to create virtual classes for their students, we could not have done it without the support of everyone who worked with us this year.

While this may have been one of the most challenging years we've been in business, it has in ways been the most successful. This could not have been possible without our incredible team of installation, farming, and management staff, whose flexibility and courage allowed us to stay open as an essential business. This year have also proven to others what we've always known- that access to fresh, local produce is critical to our communities. Our resilience can shine through a crisis because this is important work. Thank you for believing in us.

We wish everyone a safe and warm winter.

Sincerely,

Chris, Jessie, Zannah, Caitie and the Green City Growers Team

IMPACTING FOOD INSECURITY THROUGH PRODUCE DONATIONS

Because of the efforts of our business, school, and food service customers, we were able to donate over 10,000lbs of organic produce to local food banks on behalf of our garden programs! Donations were made through our food rescue partner Lovin' Spoonfuls, with a majority of the produce going to the Catholic Charities of Somerville, the Margaret Fuller House, and The Cambridge Community Center.
