Hop Into 2021 With Streamside Stretches, a Grant Writing Workshop, and Online Education Resources!

A frog perches on the hand of a Stroud Center educator, who is teaching a virtual education program.
2020 was a year of uncertainty and adaptation. Now, our education team is embracing 2021 as a year to continue our well-hewn rhythm of virtual stream-to-the-screen education and physically distant boots-in-the-water education, while we also tackle brand new education projects that safely engage audiences worldwide!

However, a calendar bursting at the seams doesn’t only bring excitement. For many of us, including readers like you, a full plate can also bring stress, anxiety, and fatigue.

So in between the hubbub of everyday life this year, take some advice from the freshwater critter’s survival guide! Much like how aquatic insects survive underwater in winter streams, caring for ourselves often means slowing down. We hope you can make time this winter to curl up under your coziest layers, watch the snow fall, and pass peaceful moments with your loved ones (including the non-human ones!).
We Miss You. We Are Here for You.
Now published monthly, our Education E-Newsletter supports your efforts to transport the stream-to-the-screen and explore nearby nature in your home watershed! Share how you #LearnAtHome and #StreamAtHome by tagging @StroudCenter on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Knock, knock!
Larva!
Larva who?
I larva you!

DID YOU KNOW? Similar to spiders, aquatic caddisfly larvae (Family Trichoptera) spin their own silk that is super sticky AND super strong! Some caddisflies use this silk as homespun glue to build protective cases from sticks, twigs, and rocks. Others, like the net-spinning caddisfly, use their silk like a fishing net, capturing tiny particles like leaf detritus and even animal parts as tasty snacks. Their silk is so strong, it can bind together rocks as large as oranges!
