FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Library Offers Public Computer Services
(TOPEKA) The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library (TSCPL) building will open on Monday, January 4 with limited in-person services and temporary hours. Visitors to the library will be expected to maintain social distance and wear a mask. A maximum of 40 customers will be allowed in the library at a time for computer and copy services.

The library’s temporary hours are Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Customers will be able to use 30 computers for 1 hour a day. Library staff will fax, print, scan and copy items for customers. Free Wi-Fi is available in the library parking lot. Individuals may also access library computers at the following Shawnee County Parks & Rec Community Centers: Central Park, Crestview, Deer Creek, Garfield, Hillcrest, Oakland, Rice and Shawnee North.

Customers will be limited to 1 hour in the building. The library is following recommended mask guidelines, which excludes masks with exhalation valves or vents, bandanas and gaiters. If customers do not have a mask that meets these requirements, one will be provided.

To check out materials, people may use Curbside Pickup, TSCPL@Home, Smart Lockers or digital downloads. To use Curbside Pickup, TSCPL@Home or Smart Lockers, customers simply put items on hold through the library catalog and select one of these options as their pick up location.

Customers will not be able to browse for materials in the library. Customers who would like help selecting items may use the Browsing Just for You service. To subscribe to Browsing Just for You customers complete a short online questionnaire to tell librarians what type of items they would like. A librarian will then select items and notify customers when the items are ready for pick up at Curbside Pickup or for delivery with TSCPL@Home.

Using the Digital library:

  • With the digital library cardholders can watch movies, read ebooks, listen to audiobooks, access digital magazines or take an online course. If people don't have a library card, they can register for a card online for immediate access to the digital library.
  • The library app gives everyone easy access to library resources on their device.
  • We release new videos on the library's YouTube and Facebook pages weekly. Kids enjoy Musical Storytimes with Kyler on Saturdays plus other storytellers Tuesdays and Thursdays to keep them connected to the people they know best.
  • We host Facebook real-time book chats and reading recommendations on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m.
  • The Bookmark podcast has recommendations from our librarians—your best resource to find your next book.
To keep up to date on library services, people are encouraged to check the library website tscpl.org. Information will be updated regularly as the library adjusts to ensure public and staff safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
