CalTeach Summer Research Institute

Summer 2021

The CalTeach Summer Research Institute is an eight-week program for math, science, and engineering undergraduates from across the UC system who are interested in pursuing a career in education. Participants conduct research in campus or nearby labs while also taking a seminar series which focuses on methods to bring research skills into K–12 classrooms.

Summer Research Institute (SRI) students spend roughly 36 hours per week in their lab or research group supporting the ongoing work of their faculty or post-doc research mentor. SRI students also attend a weekly seminar, The Integrating Research Methods into K–12 Teaching in Mathematics & Science (UGIS 189), which meets for four hours each week.

Summer Institute participants receive a $4000 stipend as well as a $1000 housing allowance. The program is eight weeks long and generally starts in the third week of June.

Please note that due to Covid-19 we are prepared to conduct all weekly seminars and research virtually, but we hope to be back on campus.
