The ninth edition of LibRE is out now!
In this issue of the LRE magazine, we look back at the past two years of commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the Liberation and we look to the future of remembrance. We investigate how institutions cope with the current pandemic, and we debate the often precarious balance between commemorations and entertainment – especially when the target is young people. In a special contribution, historian Keith Lowe discusses the role of monuments in contemporary society. Among others, don’t miss our article about LGBTQ+ personnel in WWII.

Europe Remembers on Tour!
The ultimate map
|
|
|
In the last two years, Europe Remembers on Tour! has been a huge success. We have followed dozens of commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the liberation, from the UK, to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. We have visited hundreds of museums, memorials and significant locations for the liberation. We have visited concentration camps and remembered the victims of the Holocaust. We crossed rivers in boats, rode vintage vehicles, rode our legendary Europe Remembers van, cycled and hiked in seven countries... And it is not over yet!
While we wait for a better time to go back on the road, we have gathered all our videos in a map-based page that allows you to see all the locations we visited and watch the related videos. Along with English and the local language (if applicable), we now provide you with subtitles in French, German and Dutch.
Get on board and discover all the stories!

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Nieuwegein-Utrecht

|
In the framework of the partnership between Liberation Route Europe and Fletcher Hotels, we present you Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Nieuwegein-Utrecht. The hotel is situated close to Fort Jutphaas, an important German fortified station during WWII.
Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Nieuwegein-Utrecht is a luxurious and modern 4-star hotel, located 15 minutes from the historical centre of Utrecht and very close to the A2 motorway.
Near Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Nieuwegein-Utrecht lies Fort Jutphaas. Fort Jutphaas was a German radio station during WWII and was part of the New Holland Water Line. It served as a major sending and receiving station of the German Marine. Submarines were controlled and coordinated from this location. In 1943, the Allies discovered the purpose of Fort Jutphaas, which was subsequently abandoned by the German forces and bombed by the Allies, only with minor damage. The German forces covered the radio transmitter with a concrete block that is still visible today.
Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Nieuwegein-Utrecht offers modern rooms, meeting rooms, a gourmet restaurant, bar, sauna, indoor pool and gym, and it is the perfect place to stay to make the most of a relaxing trip to Utrecht.
