Our end of year fundraiser, 2021 projects, and Isshiah's butternut squash soup recipe!
We EXCEEDED our ambitious $48,000 goal to raise over $53,000!
Thanks to your generosity, we have more than met our fall 2020 fundraising goals, and could not be more grateful to our community. On Giving Tuesday alone, our community stepped up and we exceeded our ambitious $10,000 goal and raised $12,076 in 24 hours! All gifts made by the end of 2020 were matched by generous friends of GTC,doubling your impact! Whether you read an email, shared a social media post, or spoke to a youth leader on the phone, we want to say thanks to all who participated!
We are honored to continue to serve Springfield as we look to 2021 and continue to support youth leadership, food access, and racial justice in Mason Square and beyond.
Updates from Walnut Street
Seeking interns and committee members for our Plant Sale
Our internship application process is now open for our 2021 Plant Sale! Most of this internship can be completed remotely, but interns ideally will be able to help out in person the weekend of the event. Interns can be local students or interested community members, and GTC is happy to work alongside schools or other organizations to arrange compensation for this unpaid opportunity.
We are also opening our Events Committee to those who may have ideas or resources they would like to contribute to our planning process. Biweekly meetings begin in March, and are a great way to get more involved in GTC. Please fill out the interest form linked below to hear more when we schedule our first meeting!
Help us spread the word: get FREE, FRESH FRUITS & VEGETABLES with SNAP benefits!
Our Walnut Street Farm Store was a pilot site for the Healthy Incentives Program, or HIP, an initiative from the Massachusetts state government that reimburses SNAP recipients up to $80 per month if they spend it on fresh fruit and vegetables. Springfield has among the highest numbers of SNAP recipients in the state, but among the lowest numbers who use their HIP benefits.
YOU can spread the word! Tell friends, family, coworkers, and community members about HIP - no sign up is required, and the money is reimbursed instantly and automatically. Help us help our community!
Thanking our generous supporters
In addition to help from generous donors, GTC would not be able to do our full scale of work without the support of organizations like MassMutual, Farm Credit East, and the Norcross Wildlife Foundation. We would like to extend our thanks to these organizations and the wonderful work they do to help our community!
