Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our home to yours!

TAG YOU'RE IT!

Wrapping and tags are pretty much all that's left on my Christmas prep list for this weekend.  A fond memory from my childhood was creating tags from past Christmas cards.  We basically cut away the front flap and glued it to the package!  I don't think we used the word re-cycle back then.  My mother just didn't waste anything and re-used many items.  I especially remember the huge ball of butcher string in the drawer in the kitchen!

Anyway, I still keep all the Christmas cards we receive to re-use and for this week's E-News, I actually used cards dated from 2016!  My little tag making session from start to finish took about two hours and I made 50 tags!  There's basically three parts to my version of upcycling tags.  Ready to find out what they are?

Just Card Fronts

The first group of tags are based on card fronts that are too pretty and too large to cut up.  I simply trimmed the card fronts and will glue them right to the package, just as I did when I was a little girl.  There's plenty of space to write the TO and FROM!

Cut the Card Front into a Tag Shape

Take the card front and trim it down and trim the corners or leave square!

Hand Made Card Tags

It gives me great joy to re-cycle hand made cards from friends and family into tags.  You may even recognize some of your cards!

Diecut the Inside Sentiments

It's not only the card front that's re-usable, in many cases, the inside sentiment can be re-cycled too!  Here are examples of diecutting the sentiment and affixing to a tag shape from pattern paper.  Little cutouts from my stash quickly finished up these little cuties.

The Tag that isn't Re-cycled

This tag was actually the first one I made before I had the bright idea to re-cycle Christmas cards.  I enjoyed making it but realized I didn't want to spend all kinds of time to make several more!

Hope you found some inspiration from re-cycling old Christmas cards today!  I'm going to take next week off from the E-News but will be back at it in 2021.

Sincere wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

XOXO
