Season's Greetings & Best Wishes for the New Year!
It goes without saying that 2020 has been an exceptional year. We started out ready to celebrate the SAA's 10th anniversary. Instead, we dedicated the year wholeheartedly to supporting SAA members and the audiovisual authors suffering the devastating consequences of the pandemic. COVID-19 has not only highlighted that much more needs to be done to support European filmmakers, it has also shown that more is indeed possible as demonstrated by the strong financial and political support to the cultural sector from national and EU policy-makers. We hope that this spirit will continue in 2021 and together we can make a difference, support and promote European cultural diversity and the authors behinds the works!

Members of the European Parliament supporting authors
The Cultural Creators Friendship Group (CCFG) is a cross-partisan coalition in the European Parliament with members from six different political groups. They aim at improving the European cultural ecosystem, especially the situation and conditions of creators, such as authors and performers. For the occasion of our event, the group delivered a strong video message on Article 18, based on a letter they sent to the Commission and Member States. On 4 December the CCFG organised an event presenting themselves and what they do. In between many interventions by MEPs, Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Culture, delivered a keynote speech and Cécile Despringre, SAA Executive Director and Nicole Schulze, Director of AEPO-ARTIS were invited to share their inputs on how the group can support authors and performers. Watch the event here.
