Adapting to the Environment                                   Saturday  Dec 12th

The current health crisis has effected us all in our daily lives as well as the Roundhouse and Midwest Railway.
Amid rising covid numbers, our train rides had to be cancelled and attendance was light. This weekend may  may prove to be the same. We have some bookings and need to stay prepared in case there are more.
Saturday Dec 12th 4-8PM
Sunday   Dec 13th 3-7PM
Our constant is the ongoing projects and work that needs to be done at the Roundouse. With winter weather our focus shifts back to indoor work. There is a lot of work to do and we can use all of the help we can get. For anyone that hasn't volunteered in the past, please stop down some Saturday and give us a hand. Any help is greatly appreciated and lunch is provided. There is work on tap to match any skillset or you can be paired with others and learn something new.
4070
EMI of Cleveland has donated the printing of CAD dwgs of 4070s tender that member and volunteer Tom Wiatrak has created from our detailed sketches. Those will be arriving shortly and will be checked for accuracy.
There are still parts to be retrieved and placed in the warehouse building. The pallet racks in stall 5 still hold many 4070 parts. Those racks need to be emptied and moved to the warehouse building.
We can resume work on the cab restoration.  We will shortly have scanned dwgs of a NYC light Mikado to use as reference in addition to those we already have on file.
Our 4070's consultant has advised us that a step 1 in restoration is welding cracks in the frame.  This will require dropping an additional wheel set from the frame. We have the hydraulic jacks for this operation, but they need to be cleaned, checked and serviced for use.  The wheel pit also needs cleaning out.
NKP #62
Midwest has received several inquiries about the availability of the coach for spring rental/lease. There is still work to be done to get the car ready.  This week and Saturday, we will working on the buffer plates.
Turntable
Weather permitting, now that the excavation for the sewer lines is completed, the bricks need to be replaced that were removed in order to do the work. It will be tedious but it needs to be done starting with sorting and staging the bricks that are to be used.
America Car
Long on hold, we can get back to the long list of smaller jobs that need to get done on the car.  The list is posted on the side of the car near the kitchen door.  Gaskets and windows are here so we can start replacing windows. The platform railing needs to be cleaned and polished.

Many talk about working on railcars.  Here are several real chances to work on significant pieces of railroad history.  Tired of being cooped up?  The Roundhouse is open for work in a safe manner during the week.
