Welcome

Greetings and welcome to MiCCA's fourth issue of our monthly newsletter. First off, welcome to all our new members! We look forward to working with you. Second, a big thank you to everyone who was able to come to our December meeting. We accomplished a lot in outlining our goals and committees for the coming year.

This newsletter doesn't include all the usual sections as we wanted to focus on a few action items to get us organized for the New Year. Following the announcements, find a summary from our last meeting, and a survey that will help us get right to work come January! Please complete that poll as soon as possible.

Announcements

MiCCA will be holding a virtual advocacy workshop for 4th year University of Michigan medical students on January 20th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you're interested in helping, please contact Lisa at the email address linked here

Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance (MiCHWA) reached out recently to ask that a member of MiCCA serve as a project advisor for their Kresge Funded Climate Impact Project. We are honored to have been asked to serve in the role and we want to identify the best person to serve as an advisor to them. MiCHWA mission is to train and support community health workers so that they can provide health service across Michigan. Their Climate Impact Project aims to incorporate climate change into this mission. Please reach out to Lisa if you have any interest in serving in this position or would like more information.

Thank you to those who have donated! There's so much more work to do, and we encourage anyone who is in the position to do so to consider a donation. This money will be used to apply for 501c3 status, pay our administrative director, and start a website independent of the Consortium page.

Here's the link to the draft of our budget and fundraising goals for the year. So far we've raised $3,300 out of a goal of $19,340 dollars. If you're in the position to do so, please consider donating in one of the following ways:
  • By check, addressed to MiCCA and mailed to Julie Quinn, 10404 S. Western Hills Drive, Traverse City, MI, 49684.
  • Via PayPal at this link.
The Great Lakes Region Webinar planning continues. As mentioned in the last newsletter, Dr. Jonathon Patz and Dr. Lisa Del Buono will be the featured speakers at the first installment, covering advocacy and lobbying. Other topics will include agriculture, pipelines, environmental justice and water quality. The date for this first webinar is (tentatively) January 26th, likely in the evening. More info to come!

As always, the purpose of this newsletter is to keep us on the same page between meetings and serve as a resource for this community. If there is anything you would like to include (upcoming events, a riveting climate health article, or something to add to the announcements), please do not hesitate to reach out to Lauren or submit suggestions to this google form.

Thank you all for your hard work this year! We continue to be inspired by your commitment and look forward to all we'll accomplish the coming year.
