It's Holiday Party time again - only it's not. This year has asked us to change our daily habits, adapt our weekly routines, and reinvent our annual traditions. In 2020, WORK traded sharing coffee around the big white table and gathering for classes in the Library for virtual get-togethers. We skipped our 8th Anniversary Party and didn't get to prop chairs out front to watch the Butter and Egg Parade nor pass out candy to trick-or-treaters. But we're not going to miss our annual end-of-year celebration. We can't go to the pool hall or pass the hors d'oeuvres, but we'll do our best to make a Special Virtual Holiday Party for all of you who have stuck with us through this difficult year.
So coWORKers, mark your calendars for Friday, December 18th at 4 PM. We're going to spice up our standard Happy Hour with a few fun surprises. Look for a direct email tomorrow with more details.
Cheers to all the love and joy WORK friends can bring.
With much appreciation for you all,
Natasha

Fri 12/11/20 - LECTURE: Fractals on the Mind: Biophilia in Art, Design, and Psychology
12:00-1:00 PST
"Biophilia" refers to a psychic resonance to natural stimuli that is rooted in our deep evolution. New scientific theories, mathematical modeling, and design practices are pointing the way for a more sustainable world that embraces our biophilia. It can inform architectural design, and more efficient energy distribution systems. Please join us for a stimulating lecture by coWORKer and artist Jeffrey Ventrella. This presentation will be illuminating and informative to any curious mind - especially designers, teachers, artists, and scientists.

Friday, December 18th at 11 AM
The energy storage industry is booming. Mobile batteries, including electric cars and buses, are an important part of the strategy to ensure the safety and reliability of a carbon-free electric grid. California’s century-old system is failing, with public safety power shutoffs and rolling blackouts, and is vulnerable to increasing climate extremes.
However, automakers and charging infrastructure manufacturers are already planning for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which could be used by utilities to minimize power outages and to prevent curtailing new solar as the state faces “too much solar” at peak times. We must also engage skilled labor in the implementation of mobile storage, and prioritize accessibility for lower-income communities and communities of color.
Join Erika Myers, Global Senior Manager of Electric Vehicles at the World Resources Institute, and Kurt Johnson, Community Energy Resilience Director at The Climate Center, to learn how mobile battery storage can help meet the challenges of today, and what policymakers and regulators must do to ensure that mobile storage reaches its potential for a resilient, equitable, and climate-safe future.
