Last Sunday the Friends of Berringa Park group had a nice time meeting our members after racing finished and were surprised at how nice the view is from our clubrooms.

SAFEWA

Contact tracing now applies at the Club. This means for every visit you will be asked to provide some contact details.

To make this process easier we recommend downloading the FREE SafeWA app and creating an account before your visit. This app is a digital contact register endorsed by the Department of Health. Our venue will have a unique QR code displayed at each entrance for you to scan and register your attendance upon arrival. For those less tech-savvy, we will also have sign-in register at the bar.

You can download the SafeWA app from both the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Vale Max and Betty Moore

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of Betty and Max Moore this week. Max Moore grew up in the State’s South West and started off in the sea scouts at Bunbury. He came to Perth for work and met and married Terry Gaunt Senior’s sister Betty. He had been racing a Rainbow at the Crawley Bay Sailing Club, but after meeting the Gaunt family, he sold his Rainbow and sailed with Terry Snr in a heavyweight Sharpie at the Perth Flying Squadron which then operated from the foot of William Street in the city. In 1963 Max & Terry built a lightweight sharpie with Max sailing as sheet hand. They were beaten in a sail off after being tied on points for the State Championship in 1963, however were successful in winning the state title the following year.
Max switched to sailing Gwen 12s in the early 1960s at Maylands Yacht Club, firstly as crew for Terry Snr’s brother John. Max introduced his children to sailing at Maylands and became Commodore from 1969 to 1971 – a very important period for the club as it coincided with the building of the new clubhouse. Max was pivotal in the discussions, the planning, funding and building of the present club rooms and was recognised for his considerable contribution to the club with life membership.
His wife Betty was also instrumental in fund raising for the club – both for the original club rooms and the later 1971 building. They had earlier formed a ladies social committee and sold cups of tea, ginger beer and lemon squash from the end of the old jetty, raising a handsome profit to go towards the first club rooms.
