OPENING NOTE

Seasons Greetings! I pray you and yours are well.
2020 is wrapping up, and I think most of us are looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. The kids and I have embraced the gift of time and perspective that we have been given in these times. I am anticipating a busy year in the studio as I explore some new motifs inspired by our travels this past year.

BOOK AVAILABLE!

LOOKING FOR A LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEA?

"The Spirit and the Brush: Painting Devotionals by Thomas Kegler"

The release of my first art book was a highlight for me this past summer. "The Spirit and the Brush: Painting Devotionals by Thomas Kegler" is an art book containing a collection of over 120 of my paintings, along with several drawings, created over the past decade. It is arranged to guide the reader through a year of contemplation: Spring’s renewal; Summer’s celebration; Autumn’s bounty; and Winter’s rest. The book is presented as a 365 daily devotional. Each image pairs with three biblical passages (one per calendar day, leap year excluded). It is an invitation to meditate daily on the world’s natural beauty and truth through the lenses of the arts and spirituality.
This 9x12 hard cover book is a tribute to my late wife, Kimberly.

WORKSHOPS

Stay tuned for announcements for plein air landscape painting workshop(s) in 2021. Details TBD.

ON THE EASEL

"Yellowstone Canyon, Isaiah 26:4" 12x16 Oil
Yellowstone had an impact on me that is hard to put into words. I have been inspired to explore a painting essay consisting of about 35 works. I now understand why many of the Hudson River greats would make the journey out West to paint these stunning places. I anticipate a Western show in a couple years - TBD.

VIDEOS

In an attempt to encourage other artists to endeavor in the landscape tradition, I have produced two videos for sale. These are much more comprehensive than my workshops and have there added benefit of being able to play them back and pause them as desired.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The more you learn about painting - the harder it becomes since you become more critical.
Remember: drawing pats you on the back with immediate satisfaction, while painting is a humbling experience.. often not revealing the beauty of your efforts until the last few brushstrokes.
90% of the time, a painting is in the "awkward looking state", while a drawing looks "good" as you progress. Keep your mind on the final outcome and press on.
