MEDIATOR at CADJapanGermany: HF

On the 3rd of December the MEDIATOR project was presented by Dr. Matthias Beggiato (TUC) during a webinar of the Japanese-German Research Collaboration on Human Factors in Connected and Automated Driving (CADJapanGermany: HF). His presentation “Facial Expressions as Indicator for Discomfort in Automated Driving” included results of face tracking studies.

Highlights from the IAB meeting

On the 24th of November a second productive meeting with our Industrial Advisory Board took place. Three international industry experts joined the meeting: Frederik Naujoks from BMW (Germany), Richard Schram from EURO NCAP (Belgium) and Jean-Marc Tissot from Valeo (France).

MEDIATOR behind the scenes: use cases

Currently, vehicle automation related research projects often focus on very specific extreme situations and designs generally take the automation capabilities as a starting point. The use case selection for the MEDIATOR project instead focussed on driver needs in every day driving. This resulted in a different take on the levels of automation and a project scope that encompasses a large part of the driving scenario’s drivers will deal with daily. For this reason it is also expected that, if the final Mediator system is validated for this set of use cases, any market ready version of the Mediator system will also have a big chance of gaining user acceptance and improving safety.

Partner in the spotlight: TUC

As the leader of work package 3 ("Testing and Evaluation"), Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) is responsible for coordinating the evaluations of the developed prototypes in computer simulations, driving simulators and real-road demonstrators.
