PROF MTHEMBU UNPACKS THE SOCIETY PERSPECTIVE OF ENVISION 2030

Professor Thandwa Mthembu, the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Vice-Chancellor and Principal recorded a video message to unpack the Society perspective of the Envision 2030, in his office on Monday, 30 November 2020. 

Prof Mthembu said of the four perspectives, Society is the ultimate influencing and impacting perspective. He said while the other perspectives may represent the archer’s arrows, this perspective embodies the archer’s ultimate aim.

DUT OFFERS CODING TRAINING TO 300 GIRLS FROM RURAL SCHOOLS IN KZN

Durban University of Technology welcomed 300 girls from the deep rural schools across KwaZulu-Natal to embark on a five-day training programme to acquire skills in coding and robotics.

DUT in collaboration with its partners: KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education, Vodacom and Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) held an opening ceremony of the 2020 Code Like A Girl programme at DUT’s Ritson Campus on Monday, 7 December 2020.

TWO STUDENTS OFFERED PERMANENT POSITIONS THROUGH DUT’S INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Having the opportunity to apply the same skills they were taught at Durban University of Technology (DUT) to the institution has been the most humbling experience for two DUT students who were recently offered permanent positions by the contractor, Ruwacon.

Siphelele Sangweni (24) and Gino Pillay (24) are part of the team working tirelessly towards DUT’s Envision 2030, of turning the institution to a state-of-the-art infrastructure in order to improve lives and livelihoods.

DUT’S STUDENT ENTREPRENEUR WINS AN AWARD IN THE JCI TOYP SA AWARDS FOR 2020

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) drive is to become an entrepreneurial university, preparing graduates to fill jobs, but to also create jobs, resulting in innovative entrepreneurs who are adaptive to the changes of the world.

One such student entrepreneur who has proved his entrepreneurial prowess is Marco Pretorius, who recently won an award in the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) SA Awards for 2020.

VIDEO TECHNOLOGY’S NJAPHA WINS TOP STUDENT AWARD AT 8TH AFRICAN EMERGING FILMMAKERS AWARDS

Budding filmmaker and Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Video Technology Alumni, Ayanda Njapha was announced as winner of the Best Student Production Award at the 8th African Emerging Filmmakers Awards (AEFA) held at the Greyville Racecourse recently.

Njapha’s winning film was produced last year (2019) while he was still a third year student in the Video Technology Department.
