Welcome to LPCN News December 2020!

Welcome to the festive edition of LPCN News. It has been a challenging year for all of us and we’d like to thank everyone involved in palliative and end of life care for your ongoing commitment and support.

The recently published Bereaved Carers Survey shows that local people greatly valued the kindness and compassion, and the quality of care provided by our partners and we should all be proud of our achievements.

We are looking forward to working with you throughout 2021 and continuing to grow and improve services for people in Leeds. Season’s greetings!

Dr Adam Hurlow, Chair

Whole Systems Approach to Improve Palliative and End of Life Care Events A Success

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our online events throughout November. Over 100 colleagues from health and social care took part and that feedback is invaluable in helping us to shape the future of community palliative and end of life care services in Leeds. We will keep you posted with how the project is progressing – watch this space!

Bereaved Cares Survey report – now available!

Over 225 people took part in our Bereaved Carers Survey, to tell us about their experiences of end of life care for their relative/friend in a hospital, community (including GP surgeries, Leeds Community Healthcare and private care agencies and care homes) and hospice settings.

Overall there were high levels of satisfaction across all services, with care in hospices being rated most highly. The vast majority of people felt their friend/relative had died in the right place and many people told us they had valued the kindness and compassion of staff and excellent care that had been provided to their friend/relative in their final days.

Thank you to everyone who took part and special thanks to Healthwach Leeds for their support in compiling the report.
