Hey Family!
We are heading into the 3rd week of Advent. Hope as our foundation, and Peace guarding our hearts and minds, we begin to look at Joy. Joy is a harder one for me. It's easy to think about joy as only an exuberant and excited expression of emotion. But that's not how the Bible describes joy.
In the Bible, joy is a response to something great happening. Like the defeat of an enemy, or an accomplishment. Usually expressed in singing and shouting. Isaiah speaks of the desert rejoicing and blossoming as the Lord's presence arrives, as promised.
Joy is the response of the heart to a fulfilled promise of God. Two weeks ago, we talked about hope. Hope is trusting and believing in the promises of God because of who He is. He has a track record of keeping His promises! And because he doesn't change, He still keeps His promises. Jesus promised to save us, and He did. Jesus promised to be with us, and He is. Jesus promised to come back for us, and He will!
Our joy comes from Jesus' fulfilled promises! He has saved and redeemed us, and He is with us (through the Holy Spirit), and when we get a good grasp on that, the attitude of the heart is one of Joy. You're saved! Your God is WITH you! Like the desert now flooded with water, we rejoice and burst with blossoms.
Here, in the middle of the Christmas season, join me in seeking to realize more of the joy of God as we understand His fulfilled promises. Don't let the craziness hold you back!
