Fall was a really exciting time around Wishbone Site Furnishings. We have been very focused on working as a team and on delivering custom solutions for our clients. In this update you will see the results of that dedication and teamwork. As a company, we couldn't be more pleased with our team, the projects we have had the opportunity to work on and the clients we have been able to collaborate with (despite it is on Zoom most of the time!)

From custom projects like a multi-community collaboration on the Okanagan Rail Trail to designing and delivering our first stand-alone tables to the iconic Whistler Village there is plenty to see in this update. You will even meet the man who greases all the wheels to keep things moving smoothly - our Production Manager Peter.

Enjoy! Thanks for taking the time to read.

Custom Wishbone Benches Featured on the Okanagan Rail Trail

In early 2019, Wishbone was invited to work with the Landscape architects and designers from Bench Site Design in Kelowna, B.C. to develop and deliver the seating required for the project. It just so happened that these communities had some consistency already, because they all had existing Wishbone furniture in a variety of applications.

The challenges were two-fold: what they were looking for wasn’t in our current product selection, and the material choices they were considering for the structure and seating surface were being debated.

Ultimately, they were looking for something that had some very unique elements. Although we didn’t quite have the matching product they were envisioning, we were happy to accommodate the custom request in two ways.

Introducing: The Rutherford Heavy-Duty Stand Alone Table

This product introduction is special in that it’s been in testing for over 10 years! It shows that we are always forging ahead with new product designs and with this particular product, it shows we really listen to our customer requests and strive to come up with solutions.

We've been apprehensive of offering stand-alone picnic tables because there is much we are not in control of after the table is delivered. With bolt down tables, once they are installed, the risk of damage and product failure is minimized. With stand-alone tables they are constantly being moved around and the stress this creates can compromise the structural integrity of the frames.

The original request for this table as mentioned was 10 years ago by the Resort Municipality of Whistler, B.C.. There is a high amount of visitor traffic as it gets every season of the year. What prompted the “introduction” was a call we received from the municipality this spring saying the tables have exceeded expectations and they want to order more!

Plan for Spring with the Abundance Raised Planter Box!

Enjoy an abundance of compliments as flowers explode with colour and vegetables flourish in the Abundance Raised Planter Box. This no-maintenance modern design uses recycled plastic along with an aluminum frame and stainless-steel fasteners to give you decades of use without the splinters. The equivalent of 320 plastic food and beverage containers are used in the production of each planter box so nature remains happy and plants and vegetables are protected from toxic chemicals that can leach into the soil from pressure treated lumber alternatives.

Easy Assembly and Disassembly! The planter box ships unassembled and within 10 minutes it can be set up and ready to be used for shoots and sprouts. At the end of growing season, if necessary, the box is easy to disassemble and relocate to another location or be stored away until spring. A raised bed has never looked so good.

Solutions for the Future from Pieces of the Past

From one busy month to another, we are turning recycled materials into sustainable site furnishings. We love seeing these numbers climb every month. It means another month of repurposing materials that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. Every month we track how much plastic and metal we are reusing. This has been at the forefront of our business mission and we are so excited to see the results climbing on a monthly basis!

The three year old Wishbone Parker Memorial Bench for the North Okanagan Regional District Swan Lake Nature Reserve near Vernon, B.C. is doing a great job at what it does best - sitting majestically on a hill giving passerbys the opportunity for rest, reflection and a terrific view of Swan Lake and area.
