Week 9 Term 4 2020

Dear CMS Community,

As this very unusual school year draws to a close, I would just like to take a quick moment to share a few thoughts and sentiments.

None of us would ever have imagined a school year such as this one. We now find ourselves reflecting on the unprecedented year that is ending whilst preparing for 2021.   I hope we can continue as 2020 has been able to end, with us all in school together and with our experiences uninterrupted or adjusted. I feel very thankful and humbled to be a part of a school, Canberran, and Australian community that has worked so hard to look after one another.

On that note, I want to thank you all for your kindness, grace, and cooperation as our quite simply amazing staff team (who deserve so much credit, and whom I cannot thank enough), has risen above every challenge that 2020 has presented; they have worked tirelessly to provide quality learning experiences and safety and peace of mind for our children.

As we navigated this year’s journey, we have all learned about flexibility, tenacity and creativity; in ourselves and in our children (and also in parents 😊). We are resilient, and we know that we will all come through this time having learned important lessons about ourselves, just as our children will be able to reflect on in the future.

Finally, a note also about our P&F team. They have invested so much time, effort and positive energy for our school community, and it is so much appreciated. I look forward very much to the future and the great work these wonderful people do to bring us together and to support school improvement.

There is much to look forward to and be excited about through next year, but that can be in a different message. For now, I wish everyone a wonderful summer and holiday period. If this afternoon is your last day walking out of Canberra Montessori School and on to a new adventure and chapter in your life, I wish you well and thank you for having been a part of our school community.

Stay safe, stay well, take care.

Kindest regards,
Rael

Dear Parents

It has certainly been a challenging inaugural year for your P&F.  Despite our initial plans for events and fund-raising activities being put on hold, we have managed to offer many alternatives to our community.

We’ve had a fun day Orienteering, a wonderful Star Gazing evening, built an on-line community, and fundraised via a Mango and Bee Wrappy Drive, to name a few.  In the background, your Committee has worked on and finalised several administrative tasks such as a Charter, Constitution, Conflict of Interests documents, grant submissions, bank accounts and procedures, etc.  And we have joined APFACTS (The Association of Parents and Friends of ACT Schools Inc).

Personally, I’d like to thank all the Committee Members for their tremendous efforts this year: Eleanor Bettini (Secretary); Lisa Green (Treasurer); Emma Matthews (PO); EK Potter (VP); Elena Williams (VP); Rael Matthews; Karin Adriansdatter; Emily Hall and Kate Luck.  And a huge thank you to Jaime James from all of us in the Committee for your incredible support and dedication as a Committee Member. Sadly, Jaime has retired from the Committee but she knows she is always welcome back 😊.

On behalf of the Committee, we wish you a Merry Xmas, a fun and fabulous school break, and a relaxing start to 2021.

We look forward to welcoming you back to school next year.
