Handbook for Neighbourhood House Boards

The Handbook for Neighbourhood House Boards provides really useful guidance on your role as a Board member.  Find out about the difference between Governance and Management - who does what in that space; Effective Board meetings; Risk management and lots more. The document is available in hard copy in your Neighbourhood House, or at this link from the NHT website.

Incentives to work in agriculture

Did you know people with visa work rights may be eligible to claim a reimbursement of up to $2000 for relocating to short-term work in the agricultural industry? To be eligible for relocation assistance people need to work for at least six weeks and at least 120 hours in a harvest, regional or remote area. For information on the jobs available go to the Harvest Trail website. For visa information on working in agriculture go the Home Affairs website.

Asthma Action Resources

Asthma Australia provides a range of resources and assistance for people with asthma and their friends, families and carers. Free telephone counselling is available on 1800 ASTHMA and this is also a gateway to the COACH 6-month telephone support program for people with asthma. An Asthma Toolkit is being sent to each Neighbourhood House in Tasmania to provide a ready reference for staff and the community. Extra copies of the Asthma Toolkit can be ordered by contacting Asthma Australia in Tasmania on jtyler@asthma.org.au. In the New Year, training courses and community education sessions will be available both online and in person. Stay tuned for more information.

ANHCA recently held its AGM, and produced its annual report. The report once again tells a powerful story of the national network. You know there are more Houses than Maccas, but did you know that in the last reporting year there were:

  • over 14 million visits to Neighbourhood Houses in Australia

  • nearly 3 million hours or volunteer contributions, worth

  • $125.5 million in volunteer time

Check the ANHCA Annual Report here.
