Building Compassionate Organizational Culture
December 10, 2020

First, From the Heart

Greetings compassionate friends! Last week we began a series of blogs about planning and implementing compassionate leadership in our organizations for 2021. This week we move from the inside out, from developing our own personal compassionate leadership skills to building compassionate culture.

Changing existing culture can require tremendous patience, practice, wisdom, and political savvy. Not to mention a village of internal and external allies, cheerleaders, and trailblazers to illuminate the path. Get clear on your intentions, focus, and then take compassionate action to set the gears in motion. Start from wherever you are. Know that even simple shifts can impact the cultural tide within your organization and ripple out into the larger field.

Practice Matters

Choose to Pause

Our insanely fast-paced world presents infinite choices in every moment. Often, we feel like we are on the whoosh of a waterslide shooting us straight down into a rabbit hole. The swirl is real. It’s a powerful force that consumes our attention even when we have a different plan for our precious time.

The simple remedy to avert the chute is always available. Choose differently. The choice point is as near as the next breath. Pay attention. Choose to pause. Choose to enter the quiet space that awaits you. The space between is still. It’s potent. And holds all the potential of the future you truly desire. Feel into it. Choose with intention from this place and find joy in your new path forward.

When can we practice? Always!
