On the 27^th November 2020 we were finally able to hold the draw for the Club’s L26 yacht B2G2.

Whilst not achieving the somewhat ambitious target of ticket sales that had originally been envisaged, we were able to sell  some 160 tickets, which allowed us to accumulate funds far in excess of what would have been achieved if the boat had been sold on the open market.

The Club would like to record its gratitude to everyone who purchased tickets and participated in this project.

The day dawned somewhat brooding and overcast with scattered showers, however by the time evening came around the weather had moderated and Lower Deck and Ndongeni Lawns were packed with members and their friends.

Grant and his Team put on a fantastic event which culminated in the wife of member No 1 Chris Matheson drawing the winning ticket which belonged jointly to Phil Downing and Grant Wessels.
There was some poetic justice here in that Phil Downing had ben responsible for securing a sponsorship for the Club to purchase the boat many years ago during his stint as Rear Commodore, and Grant Wessels had been very active in pushing tickets sales of the last few weeks.

The joint winners decided to sell the boat privately on the night to Michael Boorman and Chris Coxen for an undisclosed sum, which was however acknowledged as being significantly less that the market value.
There is some further poetic justice here in that Michael is the grandson of the late John Banfield, the extended Banfield family being responsible for much of the work done on the boat to get her into Lipton Cup winning condition, whilst being committed and loyal RNYC members and supporters.
Michael and Chris will continue actively sail the boat under the RNYC burgee, and are part of the future of our Club, so a win/win situation all around!
 
The B2G2 draw was preceded by the auction nautical artifacts that had been donated to the Club over the past year or two.
There were some treasured items that drew a lot of interest, and an active live action set the tone for the night.
Keith Brodie showed his auctioneer’s skills by keeping the numbers rolling, with Shanee doing fine job in assisting by parading the items for viewing.

By the end of the auction all the items had been sold, and the Club had raised R90 000!
A great night was had by all and a great outcome for the Club!!


                                                                                

Due to the latest Covid restrictions your Club has taken the decision to suspend organised sailing events until further notice.

However that does not prevent you from getting out onto the water with a select bunch of family/friends
As long as all Covid protocols are adhered to, getting out into the fresh air is probably one of healthier things to do.

Your Club is trying to stay open whilst observing Covid protocols, but needs your support to do so.
Our Ndongeni Lawns provide an ideal setting to observe social distancing protocols whilst supporting your Club.
