Kaleida Health is reaching a critically low supply of the 3M 1860 regular and small models of N95 masks. Any employee or provider who historically wears one of these N95 models must visit Kaleida Employee Health as soon as possible to attempt to be re-fit tested into another model (8210, 8210 plus, Gerson 2130, and the Dasheng DTC3B) if they have not done so already in the last few weeks. Friluftsliv – Buffalo Style!

The Norwegian concept of “friluftsliv” (rough translation: “open air living”) is about embracing the outdoors in all weather – finding relaxation in the crisp air, enjoying the exhilaration of physical activity, smelling the forest on a winter hike, walking around your neighborhood taking time for yourself, or with others. This will be a regular Thrive! winter feature - sharing new ideas for Buffalo Friluftsliv throughout the winter season.
  • Norwegians have a saying (it rhymes in their language) “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothes.” You can find a cold weather hiking tips & clothing guide here. Put your warmest hat and gloves by the door, and join us in embracing the upcoming Buffalo winter!
  • Learn more about “friluftsliv” in a Lonely Planet article here.
  • Need ideas? You won’t know which trails to try first, they all sound great in the Buffalo News’ article “Winter walks reveal new landscape at area parks, nature preserves” (Chestnut Ridge Park-Orchard Park, Outer Harbor-Buffalo, Tifft Nature Preserve-Buffalo, Knox Farm State Park-East Aurora, Amherst State Park, Reinstein Woods-Cheektowaga)

Kaleida Health New Food Service Initiatives

Kaleida Health is working collaboratively with its Food & Nutrition Department on two Green food initiatives in the new year.  Behind the scenes, Key Green Solutions provides a software program that tracks and measures food and beverage purchases to establish a baseline, set goals, benchmarks and track progress on our sustainable, healthy and local purchases.  A second eco-friendly program in the works is Leanpath, a waste tracking program which allows us to track and measure food waste in the Food and Nutrition Department.  Kaleida will analyze trends and make adjustments to food production to reduce costs, waste and our overall carbon footprint. All Good news!
