Request the Senate to Pass Additional COVID-19 Relief

As the American people, elected leaders, and healthcare professionals across the United States remain resolute in mitigating the impact of COVID-19, the pandemic continues to devastate our nation’s health and economic wellbeing. Although Congress and President Trump enacted legislation to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on families back in March, there are still many people who did not receive much needed relief. We must do more to ensure that no one is left behind and that everyone is given a chance to withstand and overcome the challenges of COVID-19. As Catholics, we are called in a special way to be a Church for all God’s children. The season of Advent, which began last week, exists as a powerful reminder of this. We affirm the inherent dignity of every person and our duty as Christians to work for the common good of all God’s people during this pandemic, while paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and those delegated to the margins of our society.

We urge the Senate to move forward with another COVID-19 relief package in the remaining days of the 116th Congress, either as part of an appropriations bill or as standalone legislation. In addition, in any future COVID-19 relief package, we urge Senators to:
  1. Ensure that many hardworking and struggling mixed-status families with a U.S. citizen parent are eligible for stimulus payments by including S. 4071 and S. 4381 in any COVID-19 package;
  2. Automatically extend work authorization and visa renewal deadlines for refugees and immigrants who are providing economic and recovery assistance to our country (particularly DACA recipients, TPS holders and essential workers); and
  3. Provide no-cost COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccination for all, regardless of immigration status, as this is a public safety issue that collectively impacts all members of our society.

TAKE ACTION! Please send the following message to your U.S. Senators:

Dear Senators:

As a Catholic person of faith, I believe in protecting the God-given dignity of every human being and pursuing the common good during this global health emergency. Our teaching and the words of Jesus call us in this time of COVID-19 to care in a special way for the most at-risk persons, including the unborn, the sick, children, refugees and immigrants, and the elderly. Please move forward with another COVID-19 relief package in the remaining weeks of the 116th Congress.

We urge the Senate to pass another COVID-19 relief package, which:
  1. Ensures that many hardworking and struggling mixed-status families with a U.S. citizen parent are eligible for stimulus payments by including S. 4071 and S.4381 in any COVID-19 package;
  2. Automatically extends work authorization and visa renewal deadlines for refugees and immigrants who are providing economic and recovery assistance to our country (particularly DACA recipients, TPS holders and essential workers); and
  3. Provides no-cost COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccination for all, regardless of immigration status, as this is a public safety issue that collectively impacts all members of our society.
I respectfully urge you to consider the above recommendations. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers at this critical moment in our nation’s history.

Yours truly,
