Dear Friend,
Mike Tyson famously said, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. Going into 2020, we had what we believed to be a great plan. Then COVID 19 came out of nowhere and punched us right in the mouth.
However, with the support of our partners, we were able to develop a response plan which enabled us to train 21,311 households, 463 institutions (schools and health centres), supply 700 handwashing stations, 1,217,400 P&G sachets and 6,000 litres of soap, all enabling 234,344 people to cope better with COVID. I would like to thank our staff and board members who worked incredibly hard and against some very daunting challenges to make this year a success. I am also grateful to our partners CAWST, Transform International, Proctor and Gamble & Connect International who stepped up their support this year. Our gratitude also goes to new partners, Acumen and Aqua for All, who showed faith in us when we needed it the most. Without this support, we couldn’t have made it. With this support, we were not only able to survive, we took some significant strides towards achieving our vision.
Thanks to the hard work of our Community WASH Promoters as well as clients/distributors like Kenya Health Care Initiatives (KHCI), Africa Hope and ECLOF, we nearly doubled our sales from last year, keeping pace with the momentum that has seen us double our sales every year since 2017.
We are not out of the woods yet, but we are hopeful that 2021 will be a better year. Already, we have wonderful news to share of our partnership with Rotary International that will enable us to support schools and health facilities over the next two years as well as to continue improving our WASH Training and Demonstration Centre in Kisii.
As the curtains fall on 2020, here’s hoping that 2021 is a safer, more joyful and prosperous year for us all. Happy holidays!
