Elder Abuse

CSA available for immediate broadcast

Elder Abuse isn’t a term most Australians hear every day. In fact for some, it’s a term they don’t hear at all. But for tens of thousands of older Australians each year, elder abuse is their living nightmare.

The time has come for us to all to recognise the signs of elder abuse. This is especially crucial during COVID-19 where older people have not had their usual access to professional support networks who are trained to spot the “red flags”.

One of the main risk factors for elder abuse is social isolation, which only increases over the festive season, so this message is very timely.

Financial abuse is the most prevalent form of elder abuse and with a lot of Australian families under increased financial pressure, those pressures can fall onto older Australians via their children. But other forms of elder abuse, such as psychological and physical, are also cause for concern.

We all need to open our eyes to Elder Abuse.

So to promote what is an important message at any time of year, Media Heads has produced 1 x 30-second radio CSA on behalf of the Australian Human Rights Commission encouraging people to recognise the signs of elder abuse, and to know where to go for help and support.
Download the CSAs for broadcast.
