Learn about CCATE’s Writing Circle!
In September of 2020, CCATE opened the writing circle in which adults write their own stories and observations about life in our community.
In the U.S. we often learn about the Latinx immigrant community through the eyes of others, but rarely do we have the opportunity to hear directly from community members themselves. Our goal for CCATE’s writing circle is to author our own stories, and through reflection and writing, to present a different perspective on immigration.
Leading our writing circle this year is Mexican writer and dramaturgist, Silvia Ortega Vettoretti. Vettoretti has been recognized by the Association of Theater Critics and Journalists of México as Best Stage Director 2018 and was awarded the Pez de Oro for Best Theater Work the same year.
Each Tuesday from 8:30 to 10:30 pm, Vettoretti connects from México City through Zoom to lead the writing circle. As a result, we have a growing body of community-written stories based on anecdotes, experiences, and memories of the ten circle members. Our goal is to publish a volume of these stories under the signature of CCATE. Your support will help us continue to develop these stories to reach this and the many other goals that we have for the writing circle.
