Happy 2021! Our planned reopening screenings...

Proxima starring Natalie Portman
Happy New Year from us all at the Electric Palace!

As we're still in Tier 4 restrictions, we can't yet put dates to our planned screenings, but here's a taster of what we hope to show when possible:
  • This year's iteration of We Love This Town - a must-see of Hastings events captured on film by local filmmaker Glenn Veness
  • Hope Gap, filmed and set in Seaford
  • The Long Goodbye, with introduction from crime fiction author William Shaw
  • Proxima, starring Natalie Portman as an astronaut in training
  • And plenty more...

FUNDING NEWS: WE WILL REOPEN IN 2021

A support grant from the Government's Culture Recovery Fund for the Electric Palace will allow us to operate when Covid restrictions allow later this year:

"We pride ourselves on offering an affordable, welcoming night out – an evening that often ends with a round of applause for the film, and a post-film chat. This funding enables our staff and volunteers to continue making the cinema a welcoming place for our audience to come and feel safe with other film lovers, to enjoy the serenity and transformative power of watching a film in a darkened room," says Electric Palace founder and director Rebecca E Marshall.

FREE FEELGOOD FILMS

Brighten up the uncertain new year with a selection of short feelgood films from Aesthetica Short Film Festival, a couple of which we've picked out below.

Under the Waterfall: Explosive passion between two lovers - punctuated by elegant choreography in the streets of Paris, where buildings change into real waterfalls.

Lynx & Birds: In a narrative about love triumphing over fear, Lynx & Birds follows the story of two birds in an Attenborough-esque mockumentary that reveals a chink in the food chain.

COMEDY SHORT FILMS

Here are a couple of comedies we recommend from the Aesthetica Short Film Festival collection:

Capital: When a misjudged referendum comes back 50.9% in favour of hanging, a group of inept junior civil servants meet on their first day in their new roles in the Department of Capital Punishment. Stars Charlotte Anne Ritchie of Channel 4's Fresh Meat, and BBC comedy series, Ghosts.
