The New Normal
I added this section at the beginning of lockdown in March and for the most part have focused on Covid issues here; however, the virus isn't the only thing driving change this year. With the murder of George Floyd, race relations came to a new and ugly head. Almost 53 years after the death of Martin Luther King we still haven't worked things out. How do we change? Why don't we change? I stumbled upon this thought-provoking interview featuring therapist Resmaa Menakem, and it motivated me to buy his latest book, "My Grandmother's Hands? which I am working through now.

For My Students
Since the lockdown in March life drawing classes and labs have pretty much shut down. The following links are the best online substitutes I have found. Line of Action features sections on drawing animals, hands, and the clothed figure as well as the nude

Artist's Spotlight: Diane Gelman
Melting Ice Cream Cone , 33”h x 30”w, Acrylic on Hand carved foam core board, stryrofoam, resin, plastic beads
Food has been a frequent theme of Diane Gelman's paintings for some time, but during the pandemic, she's moved into sculpture. Her subjects include ice-cream cones, popsicles, chocolate layer cakes and more. I find these new works whimsical, creative, and funny. You can see more of her work at https://www.dianegelman.com/.
